Gordon & Gerties

This project originated as a university brief. While I was proud of my initial work, I always knew I wanted to revisit it with fresh eyes and more experience.

Inspired by my grandparents’ rescue cats, the brand celebrates the personalities of Gordon and Gertie through a distinctive visual identity and packaging designs for a premium organic cat food range.

While the layout is clean and carefully considered, I wanted the overall aesthetic to feels natural, organic and handcrafted, in order to reflect the wholesome ingredients and care that define the brand. I have incorporated whimsical, hand-drawn illustrations of Gordon and Gertie engaging in human-like activities such as cooking and preparing meals, which bring warmth and charm and a sense of quality and trust

The result is a brand that feels both playful and premium, appealing to pet owners who view their cats as true members of the family.

The Brand

The brands colour palette draws inspiration from the organic and natural world, reflecting the product’s wholesome, premium quality. The combination of soft, nature-inspired hues and a rich grounding tone creates a sense of authenticity, warmth and trustworthiness.

Subtle variations in the letter heights within the logo further reinforce the idea of something handcrafted with care, mirroring the playful, characterful cat illustrations featured across the packaging.

Together, these elements form a cohesive identity that feels thoughtful, genuine, and lovingly made, much like the brand’s story.

The brand also partners with the RSPCA, donating 15% of profits to support animal welfare, further reflecting its commitment to doing good.

The social media designs feel friendly, approachable and in line with the brand’s warm, handcrafted personality. The tone is playful yet informative, using simple, engaging language to connect with cat owners who care about their pets’ wellbeing.

Website

I created a website with clear navigation, friendly copy and illustrated elements to help guide users through the story of the brand and its values. To encourage interaction, I incorporated a personality quiz where users can learn more about their cats and discover tailored tips on how to best care for them. This positions the brand as both a trusted expert and a caring companion for pet owners.
